Freelance High Voltage Grid Engineer – Germany (Remote/On‑Site)

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Freelance High Voltage (HV) Grid Engineer to support major transmission and distribution projects across Germany. You will work on high‑voltage substations, overhead lines, cable routes, grid integration projects, and connection studies for renewable energy assets.
This role is ideal for a technical specialist with deep grid engineering expertise who enjoys autonomy, project flexibility, and working with leading TSOs, DSOs, EPCs, and renewable energy developers.
Key Responsibilities
- Engineering, design, and review of high‑voltage (110 kV – 400 kV) transmission systems
- Preparation of single‑line diagrams, protection concepts, and layout drawings
- Grid studies including load flow, short‑circuit, protection coordination, and stability analyses
- Technical support for substation design, switchgear configuration, and HV equipment selection
- Support in planning and execution of grid connections for renewable energy and storage systems
- Preparation of technical specifications, tender documents, and Bill of Materials
- Coordination with TSO/DSO requirements, EPC contractors, and project stakeholders
- Site engineering support: FAT/SAT supervision, commissioning support (optional depending on your profile)
- Ensuring compliance with German and European standards (DIN/VDE, EN, IEC)
- Reporting, documentation, and technical clarification for internal and external partners
Your Profile
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, or a related discipline
- At least 5+ years of experience in HV grid engineering or grid connection projects
- Strong knowledge of HV equipment, protection systems, and substation design
- Experience with relevant software (e.g., PSS/E, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, ETAP, AutoCAD, EPLAN)
- Familiarity with TSO/DSO guidelines (e.g., TenneT, 50Hertz, Amprion, TransnetBW)
- Excellent understanding of VDE/DIN/IEC standards
- Strong communication skills and ability to work independently with clients
- Fluent German or English; bilingual preferred
- Willingness to travel across Germany when required
