Freelance Civil Site Engineer (Commercial & Residential Building – Stuttgart, Germany)

Position: Civil Site Engineer – Mid‑Rise Building Construction

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Freelance Civil Site Engineer to support a mid‑rise commercial and residential building project in Stuttgart. The role includes supervising structural and architectural works, coordinating subcontractors, ensuring compliance with German standards, and maintaining technical control throughout all construction phases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage day‑to‑day engineering tasks for structural and architectural works on a mixed‑use building site.
  • Perform setting-out, levelling, and surveying for foundations, RC structures, columns, slabs, cores, and internal layouts.
  • Interpret and implement architectural, structural, and MEP interface drawings.
  • Oversee construction progress to ensure adherence to programme, quality, and technical specifications.
  • Conduct QA/QC checks across key building components:
  • Reinforced concrete
  • Masonry & internal walls
  • Facade systems
  • Roofing
  • Internal structural elements
  • Ensure compliance with DIN/EN standards and Stuttgart regional building regulations.
  • Maintain daily site documentation: progress reports, materials tracking, quality records, and as‑built drawings.
  • Interface with subcontractors across civil, structural, MEP, façade, and finishing packages.
  • Support sequencing, planning, and technical problem-solving alongside the Site Manager.
  • Enforce health & safety standards in accordance with the Baustellenverordnung.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or Building Engineering.
  • Experience as a Site Engineer on commercial or residential building projects (Germany highly advantageous).
  • Strong understanding of reinforced concrete frames, superstructure works, foundations, and building envelope systems.
  • Ability to read, understand, and execute structural/architectural drawings.
  • Familiarity with German building standards (DIN/EN) and Stuttgart authority processes is beneficial.
  • Strong site coordination and stakeholder communication skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, AutoCAD, and basic BIM tools.
  • English required; German conversational or fluent preferred.

Academy:
Week 1 is a series of remote sessions to learn all things systems, followed by a 1 week academy process which is a mixture of classroom and deskside this will be in one of our UK offices and usually consists of 3-8 other consultants all starting their journey together.

Experienced Modules:
These are a variety of sessions curated by us designed to support consultants as they are progressing through the career ladder, the aim is to ensure consultants at all levels have access to L&D.

Junior Management Programme:
Ran by our head of L&D this programme is designed to support junior managers as they start their management career. This involves things like personal branding, time management and ends in a business plan which is presented to members of the Exec board and senior management team.
