Construction Manager | Essen | 12 Month Contract

Location: Essen (site‑based)

Contract: Freelance, 12 months (extensions likely)

Languages: English required (German advantageous but not essential)

 

Project Overview

You will be working on a large‑scale onshore gas pipeline construction project, supporting the safe and efficient delivery of site activities across multiple work fronts. The project involves complex civil works, strict regulatory requirements, and close coordination between subcontractors, engineering teams, and project management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee day‑to‑day site activities across pipeline construction works
  • Supervise subcontractors involved in trenching, stringing, welding, lowering, and backfilling
  • Coordinate site logistics, materials, plant, access routes, and sequencing of works
  • Monitor progress against programme and highlight risks, delays, or constraints
  • Ensure full compliance with HSE, environmental, and regulatory standards
  • Carry out site inspections and quality checks in line with project specifications
  • Liaise with construction management, engineering, QA/QC, and HSE teams

Skills & Experience Required

  • Proven experience as a Site Manager / Site Supervisor on large‑scale pipeline or linear infrastructure projects
  • Strong background in onshore gas, oil & gas, or pipeline construction
  • Solid understanding of pipeline construction methods, sequencing, and site logistics
  • Experience managing subcontractors across multiple work fronts
  • Strong focus on health & safety, quality control, and compliance
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced, site‑based environment
  • Strong communication skills and confidence reporting into senior site management
  • Available to work on a freelance/contract basis in Germany

Our Three Pillars of Training

Academy:
Week 1 is a series of remote sessions to learn all things systems, followed by a 1 week academy process which is a mixture of classroom and deskside this will be in one of our UK offices and usually consists of 3-8 other consultants all starting their journey together.

Experienced Modules:
These are a variety of sessions curated by us designed to support consultants as they are progressing through the career ladder, the aim is to ensure consultants at all levels have access to L&D.

Junior Management Programme:
Ran by our head of L&D this programme is designed to support junior managers as they start their management career. This involves things like personal branding, time management and ends in a business plan which is presented to members of the Exec board and senior management team.

Kane joined g2 in April 2023 as an Academy & Systems Trainer.

His role involves teaching the consultants that are new to the company the foundations of recruitment and our systems before then helping them to upskill in areas specific to each consultant. Working closely with different consultants and watching them implement the feedback, apply it, and then benefit off the back of it.
