Job Title: Chief Engineer – Data Centre Critical Operations

Location: Mikkeli, Finland (on-site)

Reports to: Site Director

Employment Type: Full-time

 

Role Summary:

We are looking for an experienced Chief Engineer to lead the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all electrical and mechanical systems at a large-scale data centre. You will oversee preventative maintenance, manage day-to-day critical facilities operations, coordinate vendors, and take command during incidents to ensure rapid resolution and compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead electrical and mechanical operations, including power distribution, backup systems, cooling, controls, and life safety systems.
  • Manage maintenance programs, schedules, and CMMS records.
  • Supervise vendors and service contractors to meet quality, safety, and performance standards.
  • Lead incident response and root cause analysis to minimize downtime.
  • Mentor and develop shift engineers, promoting operational discipline and safety.
  • Support expansion projects, commissioning, and improvements to facility design.

Requirements:

  • 4–6 years of hands-on experience in data centres or critical facilities.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience), with strong mechanical knowledge.
  • Proven experience with critical E/M systems, maintenance programs, incident management, and vendor supervision.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and documentation skills.
  • Fluent in English; medium Finnish preferred.

Our Three Pillars of Training

Academy:
Week 1 is a series of remote sessions to learn all things systems, followed by a 1 week academy process which is a mixture of classroom and deskside this will be in one of our UK offices and usually consists of 3-8 other consultants all starting their journey together.

Experienced Modules:
These are a variety of sessions curated by us designed to support consultants as they are progressing through the career ladder, the aim is to ensure consultants at all levels have access to L&D.

Junior Management Programme:
Ran by our head of L&D this programme is designed to support junior managers as they start their management career. This involves things like personal branding, time management and ends in a business plan which is presented to members of the Exec board and senior management team.

His role involves teaching the consultants that are new to the company the foundations of recruitment and our systems before then helping them to upskill in areas specific to each consultant. Working closely with different consultants and watching them implement the feedback, apply it, and then benefit off the back of it.
