Overview
We are seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to support the commercial delivery of a large-scale data centre project on a freelance, remote basis. The successful candidate will take ownership of cost management, contract administration, and commercial reporting across the project lifecycle, working closely with the project and construction management teams.
This is a predominantly remote position with the expectation of occasional travel to site — approximately once per month — as required by project milestones or commercial meetings.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage all commercial and contractual functions in line with NEC3/NEC4 contract requirements
- Prepare, assess, and administer compensation events, early warnings, and programme notifications
- Produce and maintain cost plans, budget forecasts, and monthly commercial reports
- Manage subcontractor procurement, tendering, and appointment processes
- Assess and certify subcontractor payment applications and interim valuations
- Identify and manage commercial risk and opportunity throughout the project
- Liaise with client, supply chain, and internal project teams on all commercial matters
- Support final account preparation and close-out activities
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of experience as a Quantity Surveyor within the construction industry
- Demonstrable experience on data centre projects is essential — hyperscale, colocation, or build-to-suit
- Electrical or MEP background, with an understanding of HV/LV systems, power infrastructure, and associated subcontractor packages
- Strong working knowledge of NEC3 and/or NEC4 contract forms, including compensation event management
- Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related discipline (preferred)
- Professional accreditation (MRICS or equivalent) desirable but not essential
- Fluent English — written and spoken — is required
- Ability and willingness to travel to site approximately once per month as required
- Must be engaged on a freelance or independent contractor basis (Ltd, SRL, Auto-Entrepreneur, or equivalent)
Ideal Background
Candidates with a background in electrical or power infrastructure construction who have transitioned into a commercial role are particularly encouraged to apply. Experience on power station, energy centre, or critical infrastructure projects alongside data centre exposure will be viewed favourably.
