Freelance Site Manager – Data Centre Project (24‑Month Contract)

Location: Frankfurt, Germany

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Freelance Site Manager to lead day‑to‑day on‑site construction activities on a large‑scale data centre project in Frankfurt. The Site Manager will be responsible for coordinating all site operations, subcontractors, and logistics to ensure delivery of the project safely, on programme, and to the highest quality standards.

This is a 24‑month freelance assignment, offering the opportunity to work on a high‑profile mission‑critical project for a leading general contractor.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Take full responsibility for site execution and daily site management across all construction phases
  • Manage and coordinate subcontractors, trade contractors, and site supervisors
  • Ensure works are delivered in line with programme, cost, quality, and safety requirements
  • Implement and enforce HSEQ standards, site rules, and safe systems of work
  • Chair and lead daily briefings, coordination meetings, and toolbox talks
  • Liaise closely with the Project Manager, Construction Manager, and client teams
  • Oversee site logistics, access planning, material deliveries, and manpower levels
  • Monitor construction progress and report regularly on schedule, risks, and issues
  • Ensure compliance with German regulations, permits, and site documentation
  • Coordinate with design teams to resolve technical queries and site clashes
  • Support commissioning, handover, and snagging activities as required

Requirements & Experience

  • Proven experience as a Site Manager on large‑scale construction projects, ideally data centres, mission‑critical, or complex commercial builds
  • Strong background working for a main contractor / general contractor
  • Experience managing high‑value, fast‑track projects with multiple workstreams
  • Excellent understanding of MEP coordination and mission‑critical environments
  • Strong leadership and subcontractor management capabilities
  • Working knowledge of H&S regulations and site compliance in Germany
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced, international project environment
  • Fluent English required; German language skills highly advantageous

Ran by our head of L&D this programme is designed to support junior managers as they start their management career. This involves things like personal branding, time management and ends in a business plan which is presented to members of the Exec board and senior management team.
