Freelance Interface Manager – Cable Installation & Production

Location: Dortmund or Hamburg, Germany (hybrid/site-based as required)

Contract: 12-month freelance contract (extension could be offered)

Start Date: 3-4 months

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Freelance Interface Manager to support a large-scale cable production and installation programme in Germany. The role will act as the key coordination point between engineering, cable manufacturing, logistics, and on-site installation teams, ensuring all interfaces are managed effectively throughout the project lifecycle.

This position requires strong technical knowledge of cabling systems, engineering coordination, and proven experience working across complex, multi-disciplinary projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary Interface Manager between:
  • Cable design & engineering teams
  • Cable manufacturing / production facilities
  • Installation contractors and site teams
  • Project management and client stakeholders
  • Coordinate and manage technical and operational interfaces across cable production, delivery, and installation phases
  • Ensure alignment between cable specifications, engineering drawings, and installation methodologies
  • Identify, document, and resolve interface risks, clashes, and dependencies
  • Support the development and review of:
  • Cable routing plans
  • Installation procedures
  • Technical documentation and interface matrices
  • Attend and lead interface meetings, technical workshops, and coordination sessions
  • Ensure compliance with German, European, and project-specific standards related to cabling and engineering
  • Support project schedules, ensuring cable production and installation activities remain aligned with project milestones
  • Provide technical input to change management and problem resolution activities

Required Experience & Skills

  • Proven experience as an Interface Manager, Engineering Interface Lead, or Technical Coordinator on complex infrastructure projects
  • Strong technical background in cabling systems, including:
  • Power cables (LV / MV / HV) and/or
  • Industrial, energy, or infrastructure cabling systems
  • In-depth understanding of:
  • Cable manufacturing and production processes
  • Cable installation methodologies (onshore and/or industrial environments)
  • Engineering background (Electrical, Mechanical, or similar discipline preferred)
  • Experience coordinating multiple contractors and engineering disciplines
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and layouts
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Structured, proactive approach to interface and risk management
  • Experience working on projects in Germany; knowledge of local standards and regulations is a strong advantage
