Freelance Construction Manager – Data Centre

Location: Frankfurt, Germany

Contract: Freelance / Contract

Duration: 12–15 months

The Role

For a major data centre project in Frankfurt, we are seeking an experienced Freelance Construction Manager to take full responsibility for overseeing construction delivery during a critical phase of the project lifecycle through to completion and handover.

This role is ideally suited to a highly experienced, technically strong construction leader with proven experience in mission‑critical environments. The successful candidate will be comfortable operating in fast‑paced, high‑pressure environments and capable of managing complex builds involving multiple stakeholders, contractors, and specialist teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Full responsibility for on-site construction activities, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant execution
  • Leadership and coordination of site teams, subcontractors, and specialist contractors across all trades
  • Oversight of mechanical, electrical, and critical infrastructure systems (UPS, generators, cooling systems, BMS, etc.)
  • Planning, sequencing, and driving construction activities to meet programme milestones and deadlines
  • Ensuring strict adherence to HSE policies, safety standards, and local German regulations
  • Acting as the main escalation point for construction-related issues, delays, and technical challenges
  • Monitoring quality, progress, and productivity, ensuring all works are delivered in line with project specifications
  • Coordination with project management teams, engineering disciplines, client representatives, and commissioning teams
  • Supporting testing, commissioning, snagging, and final handover processes
  • Managing site reporting, documentation, and ensuring accurate records are maintained throughout the project lifecycle

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Construction Manager on data centre, pharmaceutical, or other mission‑critical construction projects
  • Strong technical background in M&E, building services, or critical facilities infrastructure
  • Demonstrable experience working with main contractors or large specialist contractors
  • In-depth understanding of high‑availability environments and complex infrastructure delivery
  • Strong experience managing subcontractors, programme delivery, and on-site logistics
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and decision-making skills under pressure
  • Availability to commit to a 12–15 month freelance assignment
