Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Manager / Advisor
Location: Nauen, Brandenburg Region, Germany Duration: 12 Months (Option to extend) Workload: 100%, Full-Time
Role Overview
As the HSE Manager/Advisor, you will be the primary authority for health, safety, and environmental standards on-site in Nauen. You will lead the implementation of a high-performance safety culture, ensuring that all site activities align with global corporate standards and German statutory regulations.
A critical component of this role is the application of the "highest standard" principle: while local German regulatory requirements are the minimum baseline, corporate standards take precedence wherever they exceed local law.
Key Responsibilities
- System Implementation: Deploy and maintain the HSE management systems and procedures across all phases of the project.
- Audit & Inspection: Conduct regular site inspections, comprehensive safety audits, and risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
- Subcontractor Oversight: Rigorously monitor and enforce subcontractor compliance, ensuring all third-party partners adhere to the project's mandatory HSE baseline.
- Incident Management: Lead accident investigations, root cause analysis, and the implementation of corrective actions.
- Advisory Support: Act as the subject matter expert for the Project Manager and Site Managers, providing guidance on complex safety challenges.
- Reporting: Maintain accurate HSE documentation, including performance metrics, incident logs, and safety reports for project stakeholders.
Candidate Requirements
- Infrastructure Experience: Proven track record of managing HSE on large-scale infrastructure or energy projects (e.g., substations, grid works, or civil engineering).
- Regulatory Expertise: Strong, up-to-date knowledge of German HSE regulations (ArbSchG, BetrSichV, etc.) and European safety standards.
- Leadership & Authority: The ability to confidently enforce standards, challenge unsafe behaviors, and influence a positive safety culture at all levels.
- Qualifications: Relevant safety certification (e.g., SiGeKo, NEBOSH, or equivalent German safety engineering qualifications).
- Linguistic Skills: Professional fluency in German and English is required for stakeholder coordination and documentation.
Compliance Standards
All operations must be executed in full compliance with corporate management systems. You will ensure that site performance never dips below local regulatory requirements, while prioritizing the more stringent corporate procedures as the mandatory operational baseline.
