Overview

An established engineering consultancy is seeking an experienced Freelance Structural Engineer to support a major data centre project in Berlin. The role offers fully remote working while contributing to a high-profile, technically complex project within Germany.

You will work closely with multidisciplinary design teams, supporting structural design development in compliance with German regulations and HOAI, from early design through to execution planning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Structural design and engineering for a data centre project in accordance with German standards
  • Preparation and review of calculations, reports, and design documentation
  • Coordination with architects, MEP engineers, and project stakeholders
  • Ensuring compliance with HOAI service phases (LPH) relevant to the project scope
  • Applying German codes and standards (e.g. Eurocodes with German National Annexes)
  • Supporting design reviews, approvals, and technical queries
  • Contributing to design optimisation for complex structural systems typical of data centres

Required Experience & Skills

  • Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering
  • Proven experience working on projects in Germany
  • Strong working knowledge of HOAI and German planning processes
  • Experience on data centre, industrial, or technically complex commercial projects preferred
  • Solid understanding of German building regulations and standards
  • Ability to work independently in a remote, freelance capacity
  • Strong communication and coordination skills

Desirable

  • Experience working with international project teams
  • Familiarity with BIM workflows (e.g. Revit, RFEM, SOFiSTiK, or similar)
  • German language skills (business or technical level) advantageous, but not mandatory

Experienced Modules:
These are a variety of sessions curated by us designed to support consultants as they are progressing through the career ladder, the aim is to ensure consultants at all levels have access to L&D.

Junior Management Programme:
Ran by our head of L&D this programme is designed to support junior managers as they start their management career. This involves things like personal branding, time management and ends in a business plan which is presented to members of the Exec board and senior management team.
