Commissioning Manager · Hybrid

Freelance Commissioning Manager | BESS (Battery Energy Storage Systems) | Berlin, Germany

 

We're working with a leading renewable energy developer delivering utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects across Germany. They are looking for an experienced Freelance Commissioning Manager to support the successful delivery, testing and energisation of a major energy storage project based in Berlin.

 

Location: Berlin, Germany (Hybrid)

Duration: 12+ Months

Start Date: ASAP

Language: English Required, German Bonus

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead commissioning activities for utility-scale BESS projects from construction completion through to commercial operation.
  • Develop and manage commissioning plans, procedures and schedules.
  • Coordinate EPC contractors, OEMs, grid operators and project stakeholders during commissioning and energisation.
  • Oversee testing and validation of battery systems, PCS, transformers, SCADA and control systems.
  • Ensure compliance with project HSE requirements and industry standards.
  • Manage punch-list items, defects and final handover documentation.
  • Support grid compliance testing, performance testing and operational readiness activities.

Essential:

  • Proven experience commissioning utility-scale BESS, renewable energy or power infrastructure projects.
  • Strong knowledge of MV/HV electrical systems and grid-connected assets.
  • Experience working with EPC contractors, OEMs and commissioning teams.
  • Ability to manage commissioning activities safely and efficiently on site.
  • Strong stakeholder management and problem-solving skills.
  • EU work eligibility and willingness to be site-based in Berlin.

Week 1 is a series of remote sessions to learn all things systems, followed by a 1 week academy process which is a mixture of classroom and deskside this will be in one of our UK offices and usually consists of 3-8 other consultants all starting their journey together.

Experienced Modules:
These are a variety of sessions curated by us designed to support consultants as they are progressing through the career ladder, the aim is to ensure consultants at all levels have access to L&D.

Junior Management Programme:
Ran by our head of L&D this programme is designed to support junior managers as they start their management career. This involves things like personal branding, time management and ends in a business plan which is presented to members of the Exec board and senior management team.
