Commissioning Lead – Data Centre · On-Site

g2 Recruitment is seeking an experienced Commissioning Leads to join major data centre construction projects in Frankfurt and Leipzig, Germany. This is are freelance/contract opportunities on a 12-month initial engagement, working with a leading main contractor/EPC delivering mission-critical facilities for a hyperscale end client.

 

Location: Frankfurt, Germany (1x position) / Leipzig, Germany (1x position)

 

Contract Duration: 12 months (potential for extension)

 

Start Date: ASAP

 

Language: English essential (German advantageous but not required)

 

Role Overview

 

The Commissioning Lead will oversee the commissioning process for mission-critical MEP systems within a live data centre construction programme, managing Level 1–5 commissioning activities, coordinating with subcontractors and vendors, and ensuring systems are handed over safely, on schedule, and to the client's operational readiness standards.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the full commissioning process (L1–L5) for mechanical, electrical, and controls systems within the data centre facility
  • Develop and maintain the commissioning schedule in coordination with the wider project programme
  • Coordinate commissioning activities across multiple subcontractors, vendors, and OEMs
  • Review and approve commissioning documentation, method statements, and test procedures
  • Manage Integrated Systems Testing (IST) and support Level 5 (Integrated Systems Test) executiom

 

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Commissioning Lead/Manager on data centre construction projects (mission-critical environments essential)
  • Strong working knowledge of L1–L5 commissioning processes
  • Experience with MEP systems: UPS, generators, cooling (CRAH/chillers), electrical switchgear, BMS/controls
  • Fluent English (written and spoken) – essential
  • German language skills advantageous but not required
