Commissioning Manager · Freelance · On-Site

A leading international developer of mission-critical infrastructure is seeking an experienced Freelance Commissioning Manager to support the delivery of large-scale data centre projects across Germany, with a primary focus in Frankfurt.

This position will be responsible for leading commissioning activities across hyperscale and critical infrastructure developments, ensuring all systems are tested, validated and handed over in compliance with operational, performance and reliability requirements.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement commissioning strategies across multiple data centre developments.
  • Lead commissioning activities from pre-construction through final handover.
  • Oversee commissioning of critical MEP systems including electrical and mechanical infrastructure.
  • Manage external commissioning providers, consultants and specialist contractors.
  • Coordinate activities across design, construction, operations and project delivery teams.
  • Ensure compliance with project specifications, client requirements and industry standards.
  • Monitor programme, budget, risk and commissioning progress throughout project execution.
  • Review commissioning documentation, testing procedures and handover packages.
  • Support system energisation, integrated systems testing (IST) and operational readiness activities.
  • Provide regular reporting and stakeholder communication throughout the commissioning lifecycle.

 

Requirements

  • Demonstrable experience as a Commissioning Manager within data centre, mission-critical or major MEP construction projects.
  • Strong understanding of commissioning processes within high-availability environments.
  • Experience commissioning critical systems including:
  • UPS Systems
  • Generators
  • Switchgear
  • HVAC Systems
  • BMS Controls
  • Fire Detection & Suppression Systems
  • MV/LV Electrical Infrastructure
  • Proven ability to manage commissioning teams, contractors and multiple project stakeholders.
  • Strong knowledge of commissioning documentation, testing procedures and handover requirements.
  • Engineering qualification within Electrical, Mechanical or Building Services disciplines preferred.
  • Fluent English required; German advantageous.
  • Willingness to travel regularly between Frankfurt and Berlin, with potential for additional European project support.
