Cloud Architect

Freelance Cloud Architect - AWS SaaS | Hybrid (Belgium)

  • Location: Belgium (Hybrid - 2 days/week onsite)

🔍 The Opportunity

We are partnering with a leading European technology firm seeking a freelance Cloud Architect to guide the evolution of their AWS-based multi-tenant infrastructure. This role blends hands-on cloud engineering, strategic planning, and team mentorship within a dynamic environment supporting diverse engineering teams.

Collaborate cross-functionally with product, DevOps, and security teams to architect scalable and secure cloud solutions that drive operational efficiency and support real-world analytics.

🛠 Key Responsibilities

  • Design and evolve scalable, secure, and high-performing AWS infrastructure
  • Develop hybrid-cloud strategies integrating on-premises and cloud environments
  • Mentor and support the technical development of engineering teams
  • Implement Infrastructure as Code using tools like Terraform
  • Establish cloud security standards, including IAM, encryption, and segmentation
  • Lead containerization efforts utilizing Kubernetes, Docker, and related tools
  • Collaborate on CI/CD pipeline development, monitoring, and automation
  • Optimize database performance and support reliable architecture
  • Develop incident response plans to ensure system reliability
  • Stay abreast of trends in AWS and cloud-native technologies

✅ What We're Looking For

  • 6-7 years of hands-on AWS experience, including production SaaS deployments
  • 3-4 years in a cloud architecture role with cross-functional responsibilities
  • Proven experience in mentoring and guiding engineering teams
  • Deep understanding of AWS services and cloud-native principles
  • Proficiency with Kubernetes, Docker, and Infrastructure as Code tools
  • Experience in programming languages such as Go, Java, or TypeScript
  • Strong grasp of software design principles, performance tuning, and cost optimization
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Fluent in English; additional language skills are advantageous

🎯 Bonus Points

  • Background in analytics or data platform environments
  • Experience with monitoring tools such as Grafana or Prometheus
  • Familiarity with scripting languages like Python and backup/recovery tools

Our Three Pillars of Training

Academy:
Week 1 is a series of remote sessions to learn all things systems, followed by a 1 week academy process which is a mixture of classroom and deskside this will be in one of our UK offices and usually consists of 3-8 other consultants all starting their journey together.

Experienced Modules:
These are a variety of sessions curated by us designed to support consultants as they are progressing through the career ladder, the aim is to ensure consultants at all levels have access to L&D.

Junior Management Programme:
Ran by our head of L&D this programme is designed to support junior managers as they start their management career. This involves things like personal branding, time management and ends in a business plan which is presented to members of the Exec board and senior management team.
