Commissioning Engineer · On-Site

We are urgently seeking an experienced Freelance Commissioning Engineer to support the ongoing commissioning of a 6-panel NXAIR 11kV Medium Voltage Switchboard installation in Chester (Shotten).
The project is already underway and has entered a critical mid-stage phase. We require a suitably qualified engineer who can mobilise quickly, ideally starting next week.
Location: Chester, England
Duration: Immediate start – approximately 2+ months (project currently at mid-stage and expected to extend)
Contract Type: Freelance / Contract
Site Attendance: 5 days per week on site

Key Responsibilities

  1. Electrical and mechanical commissioning of a 6-panel 11kV NXAIR switchboard.
  2. Functional testing and verification of MV switchgear systems.
  3. Protection relay testing, configuration verification, and commissioning.
  4. Transformer commissioning support and associated testing activities.
  5. Secondary injection testing and protection scheme validation.
  6. Mechanical checks, interlocks, breaker operation testing, and switchgear inspections.
  7. Point-to-point checks, energisation support, and fault investigation.

Essential Experience

  1. Proven commissioning experience on 11kV Medium Voltage Switchgear projects.
  2. Strong knowledge of Siemens NXAIR switchboards (or equivalent MV switchgear platforms).
  3. Extensive experience with:
  4. Protection relays and protection schemes
  5. Secondary injection testing
  6. Transformer commissioning and testing
  7. Circuit breakers and switchgear operation
  8. Electrical and mechanical aspects of MV commissioning
  9. Ability to work independently and lead commissioning activities on site.
  10. Valid UK right to work and relevant electrical qualifications.

Contract Details

  1. Start date: Immediate
  2. Site-based role in Chester.
  3. 5 days per week on site.
  4. Competitive day rate available depending on experience.
  5. Project expected to run for at least the next couple of months, with potential for extension.
