Commissioning Manager Opportunity | Datacenter | Freelance | ASAP Start Date

G2 Recruitment is currently partnering with a leading international contractor delivering hyperscale data centre projects across Europe. Due to a strong pipeline of work, they are looking to appoint an experienced Commissioning Manager for a flagship project based in Munich.

This is a key leadership role, offering the chance to work on a mission-critical facility where reliability, resilience, and precision are paramount.

Start Date: ASAP

Contract: 6 months

 

Responsibilities:

  • Leading the full commissioning lifecycle across electrical, mechanical, and control systems
  • Developing and managing commissioning schedules, procedures, and documentation
  • Overseeing all testing phases, including: FAT / SAT; Pre-commissioning; System testing; Integrated Systems Testing (IST).
  • Managing testing of critical infrastructure: UPS, generators, switchgear; Cooling systems (CRAC/CRAH, chillers); BMS and control systems.
  • Driving failure scenario testing to validate redundancy (N+1 / 2N).
  • Coordinating contractors, vendors, and client stakeholders on-site.
  • Troubleshooting issues, managing defects, and ensuring timely resolution.
  • Supporting handover, documentation, and operational readiness.

Your Profile:

  • Proven experience as a Commissioning Manager on data centre or other mission-critical projects
  • Strong background in either electrical or mechanical engineering
  • Experience delivering large-scale projects (ideally hyperscale/DC environments)
  • Solid understanding of IST and critical systems testing
  • Ability to manage multiple stakeholders in a high-pressure environment
  • Familiarity with European standards and commissioning best practices
  • Fluent English (German is a strong advantage but not essential)

Academy:
Week 1 is a series of remote sessions to learn all things systems, followed by a 1 week academy process which is a mixture of classroom and deskside this will be in one of our UK offices and usually consists of 3-8 other consultants all starting their journey together.

Experienced Modules:
These are a variety of sessions curated by us designed to support consultants as they are progressing through the career ladder, the aim is to ensure consultants at all levels have access to L&D.

Junior Management Programme:
Ran by our head of L&D this programme is designed to support junior managers as they start their management career. This involves things like personal branding, time management and ends in a business plan which is presented to members of the Exec board and senior management team.
