Construction Manager

Freelance Opportunity: HSE Manager & Construction Manager - 12-Month Contract

Contract Type: Freelance / Interim

Duration: 12 months (with possible extension)

Location: Germany (with travel across Europe as required)

About the Roles

We are seeking experienced freelance professionals to support major energy and infrastructure projects on a 12-month contract basis.

  • HSE Manager (Freelance) - Responsible for leading Health, Safety & Environmental management on high-voltage and renewable projects, ensuring compliance, and promoting a strong safety culture.
  • Construction Manager (Freelance) - Responsible for overseeing site execution, managing contractors, and ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and within budget.

Key Responsibilities

HSE Manager

  • Develop, implement, and oversee project-specific HSE management systems.
  • Ensure compliance with VDE, ISO 45001/14001, and local regulations.
  • Conduct risk assessments, site audits, and incident investigations.
  • Lead toolbox talks, safety training, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Act as the main point of contact for regulatory bodies and client HSE teams.

Construction Manager

  • Manage daily site construction activities for substations, HV transmission lines, and renewable facilities.
  • Oversee subcontractors, suppliers, and construction crews.
  • Monitor project schedule, budget, and quality assurance.
  • Ensure construction works meet technical and HSE requirements.
  • Coordinate with engineering, project management, and client teams.

Requirements (Both Roles)

  • Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Safety Management, or related field.
  • 10+ years' experience in large-scale energy, infrastructure, or high-voltage projects.
  • Strong knowledge of German and European HSE/construction standards.
  • Proven track record in managing contractors and international teams.
  • Fluent in German and English.
  • Eligible and available to work as a freelance contractor in Germany/Europe.

Contract Offer

  • Duration: 12 months (extension possible based on project needs).
  • Engagement: Freelance / Interim contract.
  • Start Date: October
  • Location: On-site in Germany with potential travel across Europe.

These are a variety of sessions curated by us designed to support consultants as they are progressing through the career ladder, the aim is to ensure consultants at all levels have access to L&D.

Junior Management Programme:
Ran by our head of L&D this programme is designed to support junior managers as they start their management career. This involves things like personal branding, time management and ends in a business plan which is presented to members of the Exec board and senior management team.
