About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Freelance Design Engineer with strong technical expertise in solar PV systems and grid connection design to support ongoing and upcoming renewable energy projects across Romania.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing, reviewing, and validating engineering designs to ensure safe, compliant, and optimized integration of solar plants into the national grid.
This role requires a hands-on engineer capable of collaborating closely with EPC partners, developers, and local authorities. Hybrid working is available, but regular on‑site visits across Romania are required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and engineering of solar PV installations, including conceptual, preliminary, and detailed engineering phases.
- Develop and validate grid connection studies, including load flow, short-circuit, and stability analysis.
- Prepare and review single-line diagrams (SLD), electrical layouts, cable sizing, grounding/earthing systems, and protection schemes.
- Coordinate grid connection permitting with Romanian network operators (e.g., Transelectrica, Distributie Energie Electrică).
- Ensure compliance with Romanian grid codes, EU directives, and industry standards.
- Provide technical support during procurement, construction, commissioning, and performance testing.
- Conduct on‑site assessments, surveys, and technical audits when required.
- Collaborate with project managers, EPC contractors, and technical teams to ensure engineering deliverables are delivered on time.
- Prepare technical reports, documentation packages, and as‑built drawings for project closeout.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, Power Systems, or related field.
- 5+ years’ experience in solar PV design, grid connection engineering, or power systems.
- Proven track record working on utility‑scale or commercial solar projects.
- Strong knowledge of Romanian grid regulations, permitting procedures, and interconnection requirements.
- Proficiency with engineering tools such as:
- AutoCAD / AutoCAD Electrical
- PVSyst, PVCase, Helioscope or equivalent
- PowerFactory / ETAP / PSCAD (advantageous)
- Ability to perform electrical studies: load flow, voltage drop, cable sizing, protection coordination.
- Experience working with DNO/TSO stakeholders.
- Fluent in English; Romanian language skills are a strong asset.
- Availability for on‑site presence as needed.
