Distributed Control System Specialist · On-site

DCS Specialist (Yokogawa)

Location: Site-based, Poland

Duration: 12-month freelance contract

Start Date: May 2026

Languages: Fluent English & Polish (highly preferred)

 

The Role

We are looking for a hands-on DCS Specialist to lead the control system activities during the commissioning and startup phase of a Waste-to-Energy (WtE) plant. You will be the "brain" of the operation, ensuring that the Yokogawa Centum VP system is perfectly tuned to manage the steam cycle, flue gas treatment, and turbine safety logic.

 

What you’ll be doing:

  • Logic Tuning: Fine-tuning PID loops and control logic for high-pressure boilers and steam turbines.
  • Troubleshooting: Identifying and resolving software bugs, communication errors (Modbus/ProfiBus), and I/O issues in real-time.
  • Graphic Management: Modifying and optimizing HMI displays to ensure operators have clear, actionable data.
  • Safety Integration: Working closely with the E&I team to verify SIS (Safety Instrumented Systems) and interlock sequences.
  • Handover: Training the operational staff on system navigation and alarm management before the contract concludes.

 

What we’re looking for:

  • Systems Expert: Deep, proven experience with Yokogawa Centum VP. Experience with ProSafe-RS is a major plus.
  • Thermal Background: You must understand the "physics" of a power plant. We need someone who knows how a change in the DCS will impact steam pressure, temperature, and turbine stability.
  • Commissioning Veteran: You’ve been on-site for "first fires" before. You can work under pressure and handle the fast-paced environment of a startup.
  • Communication: Ability to explain complex logic issues to the Commissioning Manager and Mechanical teams in clear English (and ideally Polish).

 

Technical Requirements:

  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in DCS/PLC programming and commissioning.
  • Direct experience on at least two WtE or Thermal Power projects.
  • Solid understanding of communication protocols (OPC, Modbus, etc.)
