Role Overview

The High Voltage Electrical Engineer will support the development, design, and commissioning of green energy projects, including renewable generation assets, grid‑connection infrastructure, and sustainable industrial electrification. You will work on high‑voltage systems up to 150 kV, ensuring safe, reliable, and compliant integration of renewable energy into the Belgian grid.

This role directly contributes to Belgium’s energy transition and decarbonisation goals.

Key Responsibilities

Design & Engineering (HV up to 150 kV)

  • Develop and validate HV engineering studies for renewable‑connected substations and grid‑tie infrastructure
  • Produce single‑line diagrams, protection studies, cable sizing, and short‑circuit calculations
  • Specify HV equipment (transformers, GIS/AIS switchgear, disconnectors, protection relays, HV cables)
  • Support the design of grid‑connection points for solar, wind, BESS, and green industrial loads

Protection, Control & Automation

  • Configure and test protection relays for renewable‑integrated HV systems
  • Develop control‑command logic for substations connected to green assets
  • Perform FAT/SAT for protection, automation, and communication systems (IEC 61850)
  • Ensure stability, selectivity, and reliability of renewable grid‑tie protection schemes

Required Technical Skills

  • Strong expertise in HV systems up to 150 kV
  • Experience with renewable energy integration (solar, wind, BESS, green hydrogen, etc.)
  • Knowledge of AIS/GIS substations and grid‑connection infrastructure
  • Proficiency with protection relays (Siemens, ABB, Schneider, SEL)
  • Familiarity with IEC 61850 and digital substations
  • Experience with HV testing, commissioning, and switching procedures
  • Tools: ETAP, DigSilent, EPLAN, AutoCAD, or equivalent

Education

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or
  • Electromechanical Engineering with HV specialization

Ran by our head of L&D this programme is designed to support junior managers as they start their management career. This involves things like personal branding, time management and ends in a business plan which is presented to members of the Exec board and senior management team.
