About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Manager to join our team for a warehouse construction project in Zweibrücken, Germany. The project involves the erection and commissioning of large-scale steel structures, and the HSE Manager will play a critical role in ensuring the safety of all on-site activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor HSE policies, procedures, and systems in line with local German regulations and EU safety directives.
- Ensure site-wide compliance with occupational health and safety legislation specific to steel structural works and warehouse construction.
- Conduct regular risk assessments, safety audits, and inspections across all phases of the project.
- Lead incident investigations and develop corrective/preventive actions to prevent recurrence.
- Provide HSE training and toolbox talks to workforce, subcontractors, and site personnel.
- Collaborate closely with project management, engineering teams, and subcontractors to ensure safety is integrated into all activities.
- Maintain and report on site HSE metrics and ensure continuous improvement of safety performance.
- Liaise with local authorities and inspectors as required.
- Promote a proactive safety culture throughout the site.
Requirements
- Degree or diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in an HSE role on construction projects, preferably with steel structures.
- In-depth knowledge of German HSE regulations (e.g., DGUV, ArbSchG, BetrSichV).
- Proven track record of managing HSE in high-risk environments such as structural steel erection or large warehouse builds.
- Fluent in German (spoken and written) and proficient in English.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Relevant HSE certifications (e.g., SiGeKo, NEBOSH, SCC) are a plus.
