Role: Estimator / Cost Engineer – Construction

Contract Length: 12 months

Role Overview:

g2 Recruitment are currently seeking an experienced Estimator / Cost Engineer to support a range of construction and civil engineering projects on a 12-month contract basis. The role offers the flexibility of remote working and would suit a commercially minded professional with strong technical and analytical skills.

 

The Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate, detailed, and commercially sound cost estimates and tenders for construction projects. You will support both new and existing business opportunities, working closely with internal stakeholders such as project management and work preparation teams. You will play a key role in bid preparation, cost control, and commercial risk assessment, ensuring tenders are competitive, compliant, and delivered on time.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare complete and accurate cost estimates and tender submissions within agreed deadlines
  • Review tender documentation, technical drawings, specifications, and contractual requirements
  • Assess scope of works, determine quantities, and develop cost breakdowns
  • Coordinate with project managers and technical teams to ensure realistic cost and time assumptions
  • Obtain and evaluate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors
  • Support contract and bid documentation preparation
  • Ensure accurate handover of awarded projects to delivery teams
  • Maintain and update estimating data and systems
  • Track submitted bids, follow up on opportunities, and support lead generation activities
  • Ensure compliance with internal estimating standards, quality requirements, and HSE considerations

 

Key Requirements:

  • Technical qualification or degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
  • Proven experience as an Estimator within construction, ideally in civil engineering or specialist works
  • Strong knowledge of construction contracts, industry standards, and estimating methodologies
  • Experience using estimating software (e.g., iTWO or similar)
  • Strong numerical, analytical, and commercial awareness
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tenders simultaneously
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with remote teams

Junior Management Programme:
Ran by our head of L&D this programme is designed to support junior managers as they start their management career. This involves things like personal branding, time management and ends in a business plan which is presented to members of the Exec board and senior management team.
