Freelance Electrical Engineer · Energy Transitions Project · Hybrid

We’re seeking an experienced Freelance Electrical Engineer to support a range of innovative renewable and grid-focused initiatives. This role offers flexibility while enabling you to make a direct impact on the Dutch energy transition.

 

Freelance / Contract position

Various locations across the Netherlands

Hybrid working model – mix of home, office, and site visits

English-speaking role (Dutch preferred)

As a Freelance Electrical Engineer, you will provide technical expertise to support renewable energy, grid infrastructure upgrades, and energy system optimisation. You’ll collaborate with internal teams, external partners, and grid operators to ensure projects run safely, efficiently, and in line with regulations.

Projects may include:

  • Solar, wind, and battery storage developments
  • Grid connection and reinforcement studies
  • Medium-voltage (MV) and high-voltage (HV) infrastructure
  • Smart grid and microgrid innovation
  • Electrification and industrial energy-efficiency improvements

Assignments are available across multiple regions in the Netherlands.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Support feasibility assessments and technical reviews
  • Assist with grid connection applications and stakeholder coordination
  • Liaise with DSOs, TSOs, engineering partners, and project teams
  • Ensure project compliance with Dutch and EU electrical standards
  • Provide technical guidance throughout project development and execution
  • Contribute to risk assessments, safety evaluations, and site-related activities

 

 Requirements

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
  • 3+ years of experience in utilities, renewable energy, or power systems
  • Strong understanding of MV/HV systems, protection principles, and grid codes
  • Familiarity with grid processes and industry tools
  • Fluent English required; Dutch preferred
  • Based in the Netherlands with availability for hybrid working and site visits
  • Independent freelancer / contractor with strong communication skills

These are a variety of sessions curated by us designed to support consultants as they are progressing through the career ladder, the aim is to ensure consultants at all levels have access to L&D.

Junior Management Programme:
Ran by our head of L&D this programme is designed to support junior managers as they start their management career. This involves things like personal branding, time management and ends in a business plan which is presented to members of the Exec board and senior management team.
