Project Manager - Oil & Gas EPC

Location: Hamburg, Germany Contract: 18-Month Freelance Contract Industry: Oil & Gas | EPC | Energy Infrastructure

 

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead the successful execution of a large-scale Oil & Gas EPC project. Based in Hamburg, Germany, you will be responsible for managing multidisciplinary engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning activities while ensuring safe delivery, commercial performance, and client satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the full EPC project lifecycle, from FEED, detailed engineering and procurement through construction, commissioning, and handover.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, consortium partners, and key stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain project execution strategies, schedules, and resource plans.
  • Ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
  • Monitor project performance, identify risks and opportunities, and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Lead multidisciplinary project teams and coordinate activities across engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning functions.
  • Manage contractual obligations, change orders, and commercial performance throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Provide regular project updates and reporting to senior management and clients.
Requirements
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience within Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Energy, or Industrial EPC projects.
  • Proven track record of managing complex EPC projects with values exceeding €50 million.
  • Strong understanding of engineering, procurement, and construction processes.
  • Experience delivering projects through all phases, including FEED, detailed design, construction, and commissioning.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and client-facing communication skills.
  • Strong commercial awareness, negotiation skills, and risk management capabilities.
  • Degree-qualified in Engineering, Project Management, or a related discipline.
  • Fluent English language skills; German language skills would be advantageous.

Ran by our head of L&D this programme is designed to support junior managers as they start their management career. This involves things like personal branding, time management and ends in a business plan which is presented to members of the Exec board and senior management team.
