About the Role
We are currently looking for an experienced Geotechnical Engineer to support a major underground tunnel and rail infrastructure program in Munich. This position offers the opportunity to work on technically challenging projects involving tunnel design, deep excavations, and ground-structure interaction in an urban environment. The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary engineering team and contribute to the safe and efficient delivery of critical infrastructure works.
Key Responsibilities
- Geotechnical design and analysis for tunnels, shafts, retaining structures, and deep excavations.
- Interpretation of site investigation data, including boreholes, lab tests, and in-situ measurements.
- Settlement analysis, ground behavior modeling, and design of temporary and permanent ground support.
- Preparation of geotechnical reports, calculations, and design documentation in line with Eurocode and DIN standards.
- Collaboration with structural, civil, and tunneling engineers during all project phases.
- Technical support during construction, including reviewing contractor submittals and addressing geotechnical issues on-site.
- Attendance at coordination meetings with clients, contractors, and third parties.
- Ensuring compliance with relevant safety and engineering standards.
Requirements
- Degree in Geotechnical or Civil Engineering (Dipl.-Ing., B.Sc., M.Sc., or equivalent).
- Minimum 5 years of geotechnical experience, ideally with exposure to tunneling and underground infrastructure.
- Strong understanding of soil and rock mechanics, ground-structure interaction, and excavation support systems.
- Proficiency with geotechnical analysis software (e.g., PLAXIS, GeoStudio, Rocscience Suite).
- Familiarity with German and European design codes (Eurocode 7, DIN).
- English language fluency (spoken and written); German language skills are an advantage.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to engineering challenges.
