HSE Supervisor (Freelance) – Oil & Gas Project

Location: Germany

Contract Type: Freelance / Contract

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced HSE Supervisor to join a major Oil & Gas EPC project in Germany on a 12-month freelance contract. The successful candidate will act as the Client's HSE representative, overseeing EPC contractor activities and ensuring compliance with project HSE requirements, German regulations, and industry best practices.

A key aspect of this role is liaising with local German authorities and regulatory bodies, making fluent German language skills essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and monitor EPC contractor HSE performance on site.
  • Ensure compliance with German health, safety, and environmental legislation.
  • Verify contractor compliance with project HSE plans, procedures, and permit requirements.
  • Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and safety observations.
  • Participate in toolbox talks, safety meetings, and incident investigations.
  • Review risk assessments, method statements, and permit-to-work documentation.
  • Identify HSE risks and ensure timely implementation of corrective actions.
  • Interface with local authorities, regulatory agencies, and external stakeholders as required.
  • Prepare HSE reports, inspection records, and performance metrics for the project management team.
  • Promote a strong safety culture throughout the project.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years' HSE supervision experience within the Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Energy, or EPC construction sectors.
  • Strong knowledge of German HSE legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience overseeing EPC contractors on major industrial projects.
  • Fluent German (spoken and written) is mandatory.
  • Good command of English.
  • Relevant HSE qualification (NEBOSH, IOSH, Fachkraft für Arbeitssicherheit, or equivalent).
  • Experience with permit-to-work systems, risk assessments, and contractor management.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
