HSE Manager – Data Centre Construction (Germany)

Location: Germany (site-based)

Reporting to: Group HSE Lead

The Role

We are seeking an experienced German-speaking HSE Manager to join a major data centre construction project in Germany. This is a full-time, site-based position working closely with main contractors (GCs) and multiple subcontractors to ensure the highest standards of Health, Safety & Environmental compliance across the project lifecycle.

The successful candidate will act as the local HSE authority on site, interfacing directly with German regulators and authorities, while aligning site activities with group-level HSE strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all HSE activities on a large-scale data centre construction project
  • Work collaboratively with GCs and subcontractors to drive a strong safety culture on site
  • Ensure full compliance with German HSE legislation, regulations, and authority requirements
  • Liaise with local authorities, inspectors, and regulatory bodies as required
  • Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and risk assessments
  • Review and approve method statements, RAMS, and permits to work
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and non-conformances, producing clear reports and corrective actions
  • Deliver toolbox talks, inductions, and HSE briefings
  • Provide regular reporting and updates to the Group HSE Lead
  • Act as a visible, proactive presence on site, promoting best practice and continuous improvement

Key Requirements

  • Proven experience as an HSE Manager on data centre and/or large-scale construction projects
  • Fluent German (spoken and written) – essential for authority liaison
  • Strong working knowledge of German HSE law, regulations, and permitting processes
  • Experience working with international GCs and complex subcontractor packages
  • Confident conducting site inspections and enforcing standards independently
  • Able to operate autonomously while remaining a strong team player
  • Local to Germany or able to work on-site full time
