Lead Civil Engineer – Germany (Frankfurt)

About the Role

Our client is recruiting a Lead Civil Engineer for their Frankfurt office. This role is focused on technical leadership and engineering excellence, rather than project management. You will be responsible for delivering robust civil designs, guiding teams, and acting as a technical authority in dealings with German regulatory bodies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Independently design, review, and defend civil engineering solutions
  • Represent designs confidently to authorities, contractors, and project stakeholders
  • Act as a civil engineering authority on permitting and regulatory matters
  • Lead and manage a technical team of civil engineers and modelers
  • Review and validate civil designs developed in Revit
  • Apply German Federal Government regulations, standards, and approved engineering solutions
  • Interface with German authorities and manage civil-related permitting requirements
  • Support projects outside the German Federal Government framework when required, using local regulations and expertise

Required Experience & Skills

  • Strong background as a civil engineer, with a clear focus on design (not a PM role)
  • Proven experience designing and defending civil works to authorities
  • Solid understanding of German Federal Government regulations and approval processes
  • Experience representing civil matters to authorities on both own and third-party projects
  • Experience leading engineers and BIM modelers
  • Familiarity with Revit; independent Revit capability is preferred, but the ability to review team output is essential
  • Data Center experience is not mandatory, but experience delivering designs with both above-ground and underground services in complex projects
  • Excellent communication skills and confidence engaging with regulatory stakeholders

Language Requirements

  • Strong command of German and English (written and spoken)

Ran by our head of L&D this programme is designed to support junior managers as they start their management career. This involves things like personal branding, time management and ends in a business plan which is presented to members of the Exec board and senior management team.
