About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Lead Civil Engineer to join their team in Arnhem. This is a hands-on engineering leadership role, not a project management position. You will take ownership of civil designs, lead a small technical team, and represent designs confidently to authorities, contractors, and other stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Independently develop, assess, and defend civil engineering designs to authorities and contractors
  • Act as technical lead for projects, with a strong understanding of the contractor’s role and construction considerations
  • Lead and mentor a team of civil engineers and BIM modelers
  • Review and assess team outputs in Revit to ensure quality and compliance
  • Apply Dutch civil engineering regulations, standards, and locally specific solutions (e.g., soil and ground conditions unique to the Netherlands)
  • Deliver designs involving both above-ground and underground services in complex situations
  • Support and contribute to projects outside the Netherlands, leveraging local expertise where required
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with internal teams, external consultants, and regulatory bodies

Required Experience & Skills

  • Strong background as a civil design engineer (this is not a PM role)
  • Proven ability to independently design and technically defend solutions
  • Experience leading technical teams (engineers and modelers)
  • Familiarity with Dutch regulations and engineering practices
  • Experience with Revit; ability to independently model is an advantage, but the ability to review and assess Revit work is essential
  • Data Center experience is not mandatory, but experience delivering designs with both above-ground and underground services in complex projects
  • Strong communication skills, professional agility, and stakeholder confidence

Language Requirements

  • Minimum professional proficiency in Dutch and English

Ran by our head of L&D this programme is designed to support junior managers as they start their management career. This involves things like personal branding, time management and ends in a business plan which is presented to members of the Exec board and senior management team.
