Lead Commissioning Engineer – High Voltage Substation (Freelance / Contract)
Location: Northern Germany
Start Date: ASAP
Contract Duration: 12 Months
Contract Type: Freelance
Rate: €90–130 per hour (depending on experience)
We are currently seeking an experienced Lead Commissioning Engineer for a major high voltage substation project in Northern Germany. This is a long-term contract opportunity on a critical energy infrastructure project, with an immediate start available.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all commissioning activities for high voltage substation projects
- Plan, coordinate, and execute commissioning phases including testing and energisation
- Supervise and guide commissioning teams on-site
- Ensure all systems and equipment are tested in line with project specifications and industry standards
- Coordinate closely with construction, engineering, and client teams
- Review and approve commissioning documentation, procedures, and reports
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues during commissioning phases
- Ensure strict adherence to health & safety regulations and project requirements
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in high voltage substation commissioning
- Proven experience in a Lead Commissioning Engineer or similar role
- Strong background in 220kV substation projects (essential)
- Experience with 400kV projects (highly desirable)
- Solid understanding of protection systems, control systems, and testing procedures
- Ability to lead teams and manage commissioning activities independently
- Excellent communication and coordination skills
- Fluent German language skills (spoken and written) are essential
- Eligible to work in Germany on a freelance/contract basis
