Lead Mechanical Commissioning Manager | Data Centre | Midlands | Outside IR35
We are currently supporting a leading Data Centre contractor in the appointment of an experienced Lead Mechanical Commissioning Manager for a major hyperscale data centre project in the Midlands. This is an excellent opportunity to join a high-profile project and take ownership of the mechanical commissioning delivery from pre-commissioning through to client handover.

Job Title: Lead Mechanical Commissioning Manager
Location: Midlands
Duration: 12 Months (with potential Extension)
Start Date: 28/07/2026
Onsite Requirement: 5 days onsite
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage all mechanical commissioning activities across the project lifecycle.
- Coordinate commissioning teams, subcontractors, consultants, and client stakeholders.
- Develop and oversee commissioning plans, schedules, procedures, and documentation.
- Manage commissioning of HVAC systems, chilled water systems, CRAH units, cooling infrastructure, pumps, and associated mechanical plant.
- Drive completion of ISTs (Integrated Systems Testing) and support witness testing activities.
- Ensure commissioning activities are delivered safely, on programme, and in line with project quality requirements.
- Chair commissioning meetings and provide regular progress reporting to project leadership.
- Review and manage commissioning documentation, scripts, test packs, and handover documentation.
- Interface closely with electrical, BMS, and controls teams to ensure seamless system integration.
Essential:
- Proven experience as a Lead Mechanical Commissioning Manager on large-scale Data Centre projects.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical building services commissioning within mission-critical environments.
- Experience managing commissioning of HVAC, cooling, chilled water, and associated mechanical systems.
- Demonstrable experience leading multidisciplinary commissioning teams.
- Strong understanding of commissioning processes, ISTs, and project handover requirements.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced project environment.
- Valid right to work in the UK.
Desirable:
- Previous experience on hyperscale data centre projects.
- Commissioning certifications or relevant engineering qualifications.
- Experience working for principal contractors or commissioning consultancies.
- Strong understanding of BMS integration and controls commissioning.
- Experience working within CSA, Mechanical, Electrical, and Commissioning delivery teams.
