Lead Mechanical Design Manager | Data Centre & Industrial Projects

 

Job Title: Lead Mechanical Design Manager (MEP)

Location: Stockholm or Gothenburg (4 days office-based)

Start: ASAP

Contract Type: Freelance

 

Overview

A leading contractor is seeking a Lead Mechanical Design Manager to support a growing pipeline of data centre and large industrial projects.

This is a senior leadership position responsible for driving mechanical design delivery across multiple projects, managing engineers, and ensuring high-quality design output.

 

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience as Lead / Senior Mechanical Design Manager or MEP Design Lead
  • Strong background in data centres, mission-critical, or large industrial projects
  • Solid understanding of the full MEP scope (not just mechanical)
  • Experience leading design teams / principal engineers
  • Strong proficiency in Revit (essential) and AutoCAD
  • Experience managing detailed design, construction-stage design, and delivery
  • Ability to work in a high-demand, fast-paced environment and hit the ground running
  • Fluent in English (Swedish beneficial)
  • VVS Design work essential

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical design delivery across multiple projects
  • Manage a team of principal engineers
  • Oversee design phases RIBA 3–6 (detailed design through to construction & handover)
  • Review and coordinate technical drawings (Revit & AutoCAD)
  • Ensure full MEP integration and coordination across disciplines
  • Drive cost estimation, budgeting, and scheduling activities
  • Support programme delivery and design optimisation
  • Work closely with stakeholders to ensure efficient, high-quality delivery

Our Three Pillars of Training

Academy:
Week 1 is a series of remote sessions to learn all things systems, followed by a 1 week academy process which is a mixture of classroom and deskside this will be in one of our UK offices and usually consists of 3-8 other consultants all starting their journey together.

Experienced Modules:
These are a variety of sessions curated by us designed to support consultants as they are progressing through the career ladder, the aim is to ensure consultants at all levels have access to L&D.

Junior Management Programme:
Ran by our head of L&D this programme is designed to support junior managers as they start their management career. This involves things like personal branding, time management and ends in a business plan which is presented to members of the Exec board and senior management team.
