Freelance ML Engineer – Marketing Automation (Retail)

Limburg ( 1 or 2 days a week on-site) | 🕒 Contract / Freelance

 

About the Role

We’re supporting an innovative retail client on a mission to transform their marketing through advanced AI and data-driven decision-making. They’re looking for a Freelance AI Engineer to design and deliver intelligent marketing solutions that enhance customer engagement, personalisation, and overall experience.

This is a hands-on, project-driven role where you’ll apply machine learning and analytics to solve real commercial challenges—helping the business better understand and connect with its customers.

 

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Develop and implement AI-driven marketing automation systems across key channels
  • Build customer segmentation models to improve targeting and campaign effectiveness
  • Design and optimise recommendation engines for personalised product experiences
  • Analyse customer and campaign data to generate actionable insights and improve ROI
  • Support the development of customer experience strategies through data and modelling
  • Work closely with marketing and data teams to align AI solutions with business goals
  • Continuously monitor and refine model performance in a retail environment

 

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven experience as an AI / Machine Learning Engineer or Data Scientist in a commercial setting
  • Strong coding skills in Python and experience with ML frameworks (e.g. TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn)
  • Experience working with marketing data, customer analytics, or personalisation platforms
  • Solid understanding of segmentation techniques, recommendation systems, and predictive modelling
  • Experience working with large datasets and deploying scalable solutions
  • Ability to translate complex analytical outputs into clear business insights

 

Nice to Have

  • Experience within retail or e-commerce
  • Familiarity with A/B testing and experimentation frameworks
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Knowledge of real-time or streaming data applications

Our Three Pillars of Training

Academy:
Week 1 is a series of remote sessions to learn all things systems, followed by a 1 week academy process which is a mixture of classroom and deskside this will be in one of our UK offices and usually consists of 3-8 other consultants all starting their journey together.

Experienced Modules:
These are a variety of sessions curated by us designed to support consultants as they are progressing through the career ladder, the aim is to ensure consultants at all levels have access to L&D.

Junior Management Programme:
Ran by our head of L&D this programme is designed to support junior managers as they start their management career. This involves things like personal branding, time management and ends in a business plan which is presented to members of the Exec board and senior management team.
