Freelance MEP Manager – Client Side

Data Centre Project | Berlin

We’re looking for an experienced Freelance MEP Manager to join our client team on a major data centre project in Berlin. This is a hands-on, client-side role where you’ll act as the technical lead for all MEP matters, working closely with designers, contractors, and commissioning teams to make sure the building performs exactly as it should.

If you enjoy being close to the detail, asking the right questions, and helping teams deliver high-quality, reliable infrastructure, this role could be a great fit.

 

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Acting as the client’s technical representative for all MEP systems
  • Working with consultants to review and guide MEP designs from a data centre perspective
  • Challenging and supporting contractors to ensure systems are built, tested, and commissioned correctly
  • Coordinating across electrical, mechanical, and public health disciplines to avoid gaps or clashes
  • Reviewing drawings, specifications, technical submissions, and commissioning plans
  • Being present on site to monitor progress, quality, and compliance
  • Supporting key milestones such as testing, commissioning, IST, and handover
  • Identifying risks early and helping the team find practical, well-thought-out solutions
  • Making sure health & safety and local regulations are always respected
  • Providing clear, calm technical advice to the wider project and client team

Systems You’ll Be Comfortable With:

  • HV/LV power, UPS systems, generators, and power distribution
  • Cooling solutions (CRAC/CRAH, chillers, adiabatic systems)
  • BMS, EPMS, and monitoring platforms
  • Fire detection and suppression systems
  • Data centre resilience strategies (N, N+1, 2N)

What We’re Looking For:

  • Strong experience in data centres or other mission-critical facilities
  • Background in mechanical or electrical engineering
  • Previous client-side or consultancy experience is a big plus
  • Confident reviewing contractor work and asking the right technical questions
  • Comfortable working with multiple stakeholders and driving clarity
  • Experience through commissioning and handover phases
  • Fluent English and German (Essential)

Contract Details:

  • Freelance / contract role
  • Competitive day rate depending on experience
  • Based in Berlin, with a strong on-site presence
  • Start date: immediate or short notice

Ran by our head of L&D this programme is designed to support junior managers as they start their management career. This involves things like personal branding, time management and ends in a business plan which is presented to members of the Exec board and senior management team.
