Project Director · On-site

g2 Recruitment are currently supporting a major global player in the data center industry with the delivery of a new Data Center Project in the North Rhine-Westphalia region. We are looking to engage an experienced Freelance Project Manager / Project Director to join the project immediately.

Contract Details:

Location: North Rhine-Westphalia (5 days per week onsite)

Start: ASAP (ideally within 2 weeks)

Contract: Freelance, approx. 20 months

Project: New-build data center (full lifecycle delivery)

Role Overview

This is a senior, hands-on role responsible for managing the project from A - Z, working closely with the General Contractor, consultants, and internal stakeholders. The position is challenging and fast-paced, requiring strong leadership, commercial awareness, and the ability to drive programme delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Overall project leadership from design through construction, commissioning, and handover
  • Full responsibility for programme understanding, control, and challenge
  • Day-to-day management and coordination of the General Contractor
  • Supporting and challenging the GC to ensure schedule, quality, and cost targets are met
  • Cost awareness and support, including reporting and change management
  • Regular reporting to senior stakeholders and executive management

Essential Skills

  • Proven experience as a Project Manager / Project Director on data center projects
  • Demonstrated track record managing full lifecycle projects (A-Z)
  • Strong understanding of large-scale construction programmes and GC management
  • Fluent English and German (spoken and written)
  • Comfortable operating in a high-pressure, senior stakeholder environment

Our Three Pillars of Training

Academy:
Week 1 is a series of remote sessions to learn all things systems, followed by a 1 week academy process which is a mixture of classroom and deskside this will be in one of our UK offices and usually consists of 3-8 other consultants all starting their journey together.

Experienced Modules:
These are a variety of sessions curated by us designed to support consultants as they are progressing through the career ladder, the aim is to ensure consultants at all levels have access to L&D.

Junior Management Programme:
Ran by our head of L&D this programme is designed to support junior managers as they start their management career. This involves things like personal branding, time management and ends in a business plan which is presented to members of the Exec board and senior management team.

His role involves teaching the consultants that are new to the company the foundations of recruitment and our systems before then helping them to upskill in areas specific to each consultant. Working closely with different consultants and watching them implement the feedback, apply it, and then benefit off the back of it.
