About the Role:
As a Project Engineer AC, you will take ownership of the AC engineering scope for utility-scale PV projects. Your mission is to deliver compliant, high-quality designs that meet grid codes, safety standards, and project timelines. This role is critical in ensuring seamless integration of PV systems into the grid while supporting construction and commissioning teams.
Your Responsibilities
- Conduct on-site technical assessments to capture all AC requirements and constraints.
- Develop AC system designs, including single-line diagrams, cable specifications, and detailed layouts.
- Prepare Bills of Materials (BoQs) for transformers, LV/MV switchgear, cabling, protection devices, and metering equipment.
- Define protection, switching, and metering concepts in compliance with DNO/TSO requirements and VDE-AR-N 4105/4110 standards.
- Coordinate AC-related technical interfaces with suppliers and partners (e.g., inverter stations, EMS, BESS, metering providers).
- Provide technical support during installation, commissioning, and customer acceptance tests.
- Troubleshoot AC-related design and construction issues using structured root-cause analysis.
- Deliver complete AC engineering documentation to construction and O&M teams prior to project start and COD.
Key Requirements:
- Engineering degree, preferably in Electrical Engineering (or similar)
- Proven experience designing MV/LV PV systems according to VDE 4105 / 4110
- Familiarity with BESS or EMS integration
- Strong interface management skills across engineering, construction, and suppliers
- Valid EU driving license
- Language skills: German and English (C1 level)
Desirable:
- Experience with MV/LV switchgear design
- Knowledge of protection devices, relays, and switching concepts
- Hands-on understanding of grid operator approval processes
- Familiarity with international PV standards (IEC 60364, IEC 62109)
- Experience in PV construction supervision or commissioning
- Knowledge of SCADA systems and plant monitoring architectures
- Understanding of EV charging integration in PV-hybrid projects
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical, Eplan P8, or similar tools
- Experience with simulation tools (PVSyst, PV*Sol)
- Knowledge of metering concepts according to TAB/VNB requirements
- Experience with tendering / RfX processes
