Electrical Lead (Freelance) – Data Center Project

Location - Austria

The Electrical Lead will represent the Main Contractor on site and take full responsibility for the delivery of the electrical package on a major data center project in Austria.

Key Responsibilities

Electrical Package Management

  • Full ownership of the electrical scope on behalf of the GC.
  • Manage and coordinate electrical subcontractors across all work fronts.
  • Review electrical designs, technical submittals, RFIs, and change requests.
  • Coordinate interfaces with CSA, mechanical, commissioning, and client teams.

Construction & Programme

  • Drive electrical works in line with the master construction programme.
  • Track progress, productivity, and manpower.
  • Identify risks, constraints, and mitigation measures.
  • Provide accurate progress reporting to project leadership.

Quality, Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with Austrian electrical regulations and standards (OVE, ÖNORM, IEC).
  • Enforce GC HSE standards and electrical safety best practices.
  • Review and approve method statements, risk assessments, and permits to work.
  • Lead inspections, snagging, and quality close-out.

Commissioning & Handover

  • Support electrical commissioning and energisation activities.
  • Coordinate authority approvals and grid connection interfaces.
  • Support Integrated Systems Testing (IST).
  • Ensure completion of as-built drawings, O&M manuals, and handover documentation.

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Electrical Engineering qualification or equivalent trade background.
  • Proven experience as an Electrical Lead / Electrical Manager on data center or mission-critical projects.
  • Strong knowledge of MV/LV systems, UPS, generators, and redundancy concepts (N, N+1, 2N).
  • Experience working for a Main Contractor (GC) on large-scale projects.
  • Solid understanding of Austrian standards and regulations (OVE, ÖNORM).
  • Strong subcontractor management and on-site leadership skills.

Desirable

  • Previous freelance / B2B contract experience in Austria or EU.
  • Data center project experience in DACH region.
  • German language skills (preferred but not essential depending on team structure).
  • Experience through commissioning and handover phases.
