Schools Finance Support Manager

I am working on behalf of a local authority client of mine who are looking to bring some interim finance support into this school's finance team.

This role will work closely with the Group Manager of Education and the Assistant Director of Children's Finance to oversee the schools finance team, ensuring the accurate and efficient management of school finances and develop support strategies to reduce future deficit trajectory of school's balances.

In addition to maintaining financial operations, the postholder will contribute to strategic financial planning, offering advisory support for school efficiency planning and financial processes related to school closures as part of the Medium-Term Financial Strategy (MTFS). The role requires regular engagement with key stakeholders across the local authority, providing comprehensive financial insights into schools and analysing their medium-term financial plans.

What the client is looking for:

  • We are looking for a skilled, experienced, and enthusiastic professional to provide financial oversight for all schools.
  • This individual will also develop new systems for monitoring financial management within the sector.
  • To succeed in this role, candidates should have a strong understanding of the Dedicated Schools Grant - Schools Block and, ideally, experience in preparing financial reports for Schools Forum and governing boards.
  • Excellent communication skills are essential, along with the ability to research, analyse, interpret, and evaluate complex financial and business-related information.
  • The successful candidate will support services with financial advice, offering a comprehensive view of budget pressures, particularly those affecting schools with falling rolls and significant financial challenges.

These are a variety of sessions curated by us designed to support consultants as they are progressing through the career ladder, the aim is to ensure consultants at all levels have access to L&D.

Junior Management Programme:
Ran by our head of L&D this programme is designed to support junior managers as they start their management career. This involves things like personal branding, time management and ends in a business plan which is presented to members of the Exec board and senior management team.
