Senior Electrical Commissioning Engineer – Waste to Energy Project (Freelance / Contract)

We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Commissioning Engineer for a major Waste to Energy (WtE) power plant project based in Munich, Germany. This is a long-term contract opportunity focused on the boiler package of a large-scale energy-from-waste facility, offering an immediate start for the right candidate.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute electrical commissioning activities across the boiler package of the WtE facility, including grate systems, combustion air fans, flue gas treatment plant, ash handling systems, and boiler auxiliary electrical equipment
  • Ensure systems are commissioned in line with project specifications, commissioning procedures, and applicable industry standards including German and EU regulatory requirements
  • Review and approve commissioning documentation, test packs, procedures, and punch lists specific to the boiler package
  • Interface closely with boiler OEM vendors, client representatives, and project stakeholders throughout commissioning and start-up phases
  • Identify and resolve technical issues during commissioning, refractory dry-out, initial firing, and handover activities
  • Ensure strict compliance with HSE regulations, local electrical codes, and project commissioning requirements on a live construction and commissioning site

Requirements

  • Minimum 8 years' experience in electrical commissioning within Waste to Energy, biomass, coal, or similar solid fuel power generation environments
  • Proven track record in a Senior Electrical Commissioning Engineer or Lead role, ideally with direct boiler package experience on WtE or thermal power projects
  • Strong background in MV/LV electrical systems, motor control centres, VSDs, protection and control systems, and power distribution within a boiler island scope
  • Experience with moving grate boilers, fluidised bed boilers, or stoker-fired boilers and their associated electrical auxiliaries is highly desirable
  • Willingness to work on-site in Munich, Germany for the duration of the contract
  • Fluent English required; German language skills are highly advantageous
  • Eligible to work in the EU on a freelance/contract basis

 

This is an excellent opportunity to play a key senior role in delivering a major Waste to Energy project, contributing directly to the successful electrical commissioning and start-up of the boiler package on a landmark energy-from-waste facility in Germany.
