Senior HV Route Engineer – Underground Cables & Pipelines

Netherlands | Utrecht / Delt | Hybrid

About the Role:

We’re looking for a Senior High Voltage Engineer with a civil engineering background to support the design and development of underground cable and pipeline routes across the Netherlands. In this role, you will work on the full project lifecycle, from early feasibility to detailed design, while providing technically and legally sound advice to clients in the energy, water, municipal and governmental sectors.

You will work on grid layout development, cable route studies, environmental assessments, and AutoCAD-based design work. This position combines office-based engineering with regular site visits for assessments, research and stakeholder consultations.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support the design of underground high‑voltage cable routes (HV) and pipeline systems.
  • Contribute to grid layout planning for energy infrastructure projects.
  • Produce and review AutoCAD drawings relating to cable routing, alignment and civil interfaces.
  • Conduct cable route studies, including technical, environmental and legal considerations.
  • Collaborate with specialists across disciplines to deliver safe, innovative and compliant route designs.
  • Prepare feasibility studies and compare multiple route options based on technical constraints, soil conditions, permitting and environmental impact.
  • Provide expert advice to clients such as energy operators, drinking water companies, municipalities, provinces and national authorities.
  • Coordinate project planning and support environmental management tasks.
  • Visit project locations to gather field data, conduct inspections and meet stakeholders.
  • Support the team in delivering solutions that meet the highest engineering and regulatory standards.

What You Bring

  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in HV engineering, civil infrastructure, or underground cable/pipeline projects.
  • A civil engineering background with strong understanding of underground works.
  • Experience with grid layout design and HV cable route planning.
  • Strong AutoCAD skills and familiarity with underground utility design.
  • Environmental awareness related to cable/pipeline routing.
  • Experience across the full project lifecycle.
  • Innovative mindset and enjoyment working alongside experienced colleagues.
  • Dutch language proficiency (written and spoken).

About the Team

You will join a multidisciplinary Cables & Pipelines team with a mix of junior and senior specialists. The team handles complex challenges connected to the Dutch energy transition, including cable/pipeline calculations, route coordination, stakeholder management and underground infrastructure design. You will collaborate closely with other engineering disciplines to deliver sustainable solutions for the Netherlands.
