Planning Engineer · Hybrid

One of my clients in Germany are working on a large scale, power transmission project. They are looking for a freelance Planning Engineer to join them at the start of 2026 for an initial period of 12 months, with a high chance of extension.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain detailed project schedules using tools such as Primavera P6 or MS Project.
  • Integrate schedules across engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning activities.
  • Track project progress against baseline plans and identify variances.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly progress reports for stakeholders.
  • Identify potential delays and propose mitigation strategies.
  • Coordinate resource allocation and ensure alignment with project timelines.
  • Collaborate with engineering, procurement, and construction teams to ensure accurate schedule inputs.
  • Liaise with external stakeholders, including permitting authorities and subcontractors.
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and project standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of schedule changes and approvals.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Degree in Engineering, Project Management, or related field.
  • Proven experience in planning and scheduling large-scale infrastructure projects, ideally in HVDC or power transmission.
  • Proficiency in Primavera P6, MS Project, and other planning tools.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.

Desirable:

  • Experience with underground cable routing and permitting processes.
  • Knowledge of HVDC technology and power transmission systems.
  • Familiarity with German permitting regulations.

Ran by our head of L&D this programme is designed to support junior managers as they start their management career. This involves things like personal branding, time management and ends in a business plan which is presented to members of the Exec board and senior management team.
