Freelance Senior Site Manager | Standalone BESS Project

We’re looking for an experienced Senior Site Manager to lead on‑site delivery of a major standalone BESS project in Hamburg. If you thrive in fast‑paced environments, know how to keep complex construction and electrical works moving, and can confidently steer contractors toward safe, high‑quality execution, this is a role where you’ll make a visible impact.

  • Location: Hamburg, Germany
  • Duration: 12 months (with potential for extension)
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Language: English essential, German desirable

Key Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing day‑to‑day site operations for a utility‑scale BESS installation
  • Managing subcontractors, ensuring work is delivered safely, on time, and to spec
  • Coordinating civil, electrical, and commissioning activities
  • Acting as the key on‑site interface between EPC, client, and local stakeholders
  • Monitoring progress, resolving issues, and maintaining clear reporting
  • Upholding HSE standards and ensuring full compliance with German regulations

Essential:

  • Proven experience on energy, grid‑scale storage, or large‑scale electrical infrastructure projects
  • Strong understanding of BESS systems, HV/LV works, and EPC workflows
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and contractor‑management skills
  • Ability to navigate German permitting, safety, and construction requirements
  • EU passport

Academy:
Week 1 is a series of remote sessions to learn all things systems, followed by a 1 week academy process which is a mixture of classroom and deskside this will be in one of our UK offices and usually consists of 3-8 other consultants all starting their journey together.

Experienced Modules:
These are a variety of sessions curated by us designed to support consultants as they are progressing through the career ladder, the aim is to ensure consultants at all levels have access to L&D.

Junior Management Programme:
Ran by our head of L&D this programme is designed to support junior managers as they start their management career. This involves things like personal branding, time management and ends in a business plan which is presented to members of the Exec board and senior management team.

His role involves teaching the consultants that are new to the company the foundations of recruitment and our systems before then helping them to upskill in areas specific to each consultant.
